Kane Williamson has been outstanding with the willow for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The opening batsman has scored 410 runs in 10 matches at an average of 51.25. Moreover, he has notched five half-centuries, which shows his penchant for putting a price tag on his wicket and yet scoring the runs at a strike-rate of 131.83.
He is one of the primary reasons why the Sunrisers are perching at the pinnacle of the points table. He has adjusted to the conditions pretty efficiently and hasn’t let the bowlers dictate terms to him. Mike Hesson, who is presently working as an expert in the Star Sports Select dugout, spoke about the Kiwi batsman’s prowess and the mannerisms of his stroke-play.
“All-round good player”- Hesson on Kane Williamson
“Any quality batsman, if they have got the skills, will adapt (to) any form of the game and Kane Williamson is no different. He does not go out and look to thrash the ball, but he times the ball, gets in good positions and hits where fielders aren’t. (He is) an all-round good player,” Hesson was quoted as saying in My Khel.
There have been several impressive cricketers who have emerged over the last few years. A few of them have turned out to be indispensable members of the respective teams. Hesson, who is also the coach of New Zealand, talked about the best cricketers going around when he was asked about whether Williamson is the best cricketer or not.
“Look, I wouldn’t say that. There are four-five (players) who are extremely good. (India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper) Virat Kohli is one, Joe Root (of England is) exceptionally good. Steve Smith (Australia), Kane Williamson, they are probably the four at the moment around the world, and AB de Villers when he is playing,” he added.
