Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram is regarded as one of the most lethal bowlers of the sport. The speedster was feared by all batsmen due to his pace and swinging ability. Former New Zealand first-class cricketer James Pamment recently revealed an incident when he got the taste of Akram’s lethal bowling forte.

Pamment revealed that he was worried even after smashing a boundary off the first ball which he faced from Akram. The incident happened in a tour match against Pakistan in 1995-1996 when Pamment was included in the side for his impressive performances in Shell Trophy.

Akram served a juicy half-volley to Pamment and he smashed a cracking four towards the side screen. However, the Kiwi batsman started regretting his decision even before he smashed the delivery for a boundary.

“Sort of halfway through executing that shot, I thought why did you do that? What a silly thing to do,” said Pamment.

“I knew what was coming. Next ball he ran in exactly the same but it was 35 kmph faster, hit me flush on the front of my helmet, the badge exploded and landed on the floor right next to me, so I casually picked it up and put it in my pocket and set myself for the next ball,” he added.

Pamment missed the next ball by metres and on the delivery after that ‘he managed’ to get a knick which was caught by Inzamam-ul-Haq at slips. Pamment started walking in the opposite direction after getting out before he heard a noise saying that he was walking in the wrong direction.

“I put my bat under the arm and set off walking, must be walking for about 30 seconds, pretty close to the boundary edge and I get this noise ‘Hey you are walking the wrong F*****g way. Instead of turning around and going towards the pavilion, I walked straight into the groundsmen shed. I thought what should I do? turn around and walk all the way back again? So I casually walked into the groundsmen shed,” Pattinson said and revealed that he suffered from a concussion at that moment.

Wasim Akram also reacted to the incident on Twitter and took a cheeky jibe at Pamment for smashing a four on the very first delivery. The legendary Pakistan pacer also apologised for the concussion to Pamment.

“Haha don’t remember it but it sounds like me! What was going through your head to think it was a good idea to drive me on the first ball anyway haha?? Sorry about the concussion mate,” tweeted Akram.
