There is certainly cause for celebration as the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has finally reached an agreement with the players regarding the revenue-sharing agreement that will commence from the first of August. The Kiwis’ players were represented by the player’s association which eventually saw the negotiations which were concluded in the most constructive and a professional manner.

The revised agreement will last for four years which will witness the players entitled to around 26 percent of the projected revenue in addition with 30 percent of the expected projections after striking a deal. In addition to this, each player will also witness the number of matches being reduced from ten to eight in the Plunkett Shield.

David White, the chairman of the NZC went on to praise the manner in which negotiations were carried out between the two parties.

“I just want to congratulate everyone involved in the constructive manner in which the entire process was conducted,” White said. “It was evident throughout that all parties shared a common interest in striking an agreement that was fair, progressive and good for the overall game in New Zealand. There has been a strong and robust discussion throughout the process, as you’d expect with such a significant document – but the overall tone has been one of cooperation.”

‘Great to see players valued as stakeholders in the sport’

The NZPA representative Heath Mills also went on to acknowledge the participation of all parties involved in the constructive structuring of the deal. Earlier several tours of Australia and subsequently South Africa had been canceled due to certain disputes.

“I’d like to acknowledge the spirit in which NZC and the Major Associations entered the negotiation process,” Mills said. “At all times, we’ve felt respected and treated as an important and valued stakeholder in the sport. It’s great to see all parties so well aligned and moving in the same direction.”
