Kyle Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Jamieson, for whom it was the second offence in a 24-month period, taking his cumulative demerit points to two.

The incident occurred in the 15th over of Bangladesh’s innings when Jamieson reacted angrily to the TV umpire’s decision ruling Tamim Iqbal’s return catch had not been taken cleanly by Jamieson.

Jamieson admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. There was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Chris Brown, third umpire Wayne Knights, and fourth official Ash Mehrotra leveled the charge.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Kyle Jamieson produced a decent performance in the second ODI

Jamieson produced a decent performance with the ball for the Kiwis in the second rubber at Christchurch. The tall right-arm pacer bowled 10 overs, gave away 36 runs, and also picked up the wicket of Mahmudullah. In fact, Jamieson was the only New Zealand bowler who gave away runs at an economy rate of less than 4 runs an over in the second ODI.

The New Zealand side held their nerve to beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets to go 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series. Stand-in-skipper Tom Latham was the catalyst of New Zealand’s victory and scored a match-winning 110* off 108 balls. Devon Conway provided excellent support to Latham and scored 72 off 93 deliveries as New Zealand chased down the target of 272 with 10 balls to spare.

The third and final ODI of the series will be played at Wellington on 26th March 2021. A win in the final ODI would allow New Zealand to inflict a whitewash on Tamim Iqbal and his men.
