New Zealand registered a comfortable win in the first ever day/night Test match played on the New Zealand soil by defeating England with an innings and 49 run margin. The rain threated against producing the result in the game as only 23.1 and 2.5 overs of play was possible on 2nd and 3rd day’s play after the Kiwis dismantled England for 58 in the first innings. The hosts took a 369-run first innings lead which was enough for them as they bundled out England for 320 in the final session of the game.

2 – This was only the second time New Zealand defeated England by an innings in Test cricket. The Kiwis won by an innings and 132 run margin in the 1984 Christchurch Test.


7 – Alastair Cook’s match aggregate of seven runs is his joint lowest in his previous 48 Tests. Cook aggregated seven runs in the 2015 Durban Test against South Africa with 0 and 7 respectively. He scored 5 and 2 in this Auckland Test.


9/99 – Trent Boult’s match figures of 9/99 are his 2nd best Test match bowling figures. He took 10/80 against Windies in the 2013 Wellington Test. Boult’s 6/23 in the first innings are his best figures in a Test inning.


12 – Number of consecutive Test matches outside the home for England without a win; their longest streak without a win away from home. They failed to win even one of the 12 away Tests they played between 1939 and 1948.


18Kane Williamson now holds the record for most number of centuries in Test cricket for New Zealand. He went past Martin Crowe and Ross Taylor’s tally of 17 centuries in this format.


66 – Ben Stokes’ 66 is the highest score in England’s innings that had four half-centurions. This is the joint-lowest highest individual score in a Test innings for England where four players scored fifties. England had a highest of 66 in the 1948 Leeds Test against Australia where they had four players with fifties.


369 – New Zealand’s first innings lead of 369 is the 4th highest first innings lead they ever taken while batting second in Test cricket. Overall, this is the 7th highest first-innings lead for New Zealand and their highest against England in Test cricket.


2008 – New Zealand registered their first home win against England in Test cricket since 2008. This is their first win in six home Test against the England team. New Zealand last defeated England at home was in 2008 Hamilton Test.
