The title clash of the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy between India and Bangladesh in Sri Lanka was one heck of an encounter. The game swung from one way to another throughout the 40 overs before Dinesh Karthik broke the hearts of the opposition with a miraculous six off the last ball of the final over of the innings when his team needed 5 runs. There was sudden elation in the camp for the Men in Blue while the Tigers along with their fans were left hapless as they couldn’t believe what just panned out in the middle.
There was a lot of drama prior to the commencement of the final of the tournament as Bangladesh had defeated Sri Lanka in the last over thriller just a couple of days ago. But the game was marred by the huge controversy after which the visitors celebrated their victory with the famous ‘Naagin dance’ in the ground. This miffed the Sri Lankan fans to a large extent and they rooted for India in the final only to mock Bangladesh.
While chasing the target of 167, India was well on course at the halfway mark with their skipper Rohit Sharma going great guns along with Manish Pandey. But the wicket of the former meant all the momentum was sucked away by Bangladesh who bowled cleverly and the struggle for the Men in Blue compounded with the rookie Vijay Shankar failing to connect the bat with the ball. In the end, they needed 34 off the last couple of overs and naturally, Bangladesh were favourites to seal the trophy.
However, Dinesh Karthik had other ideas who just kept on hitting the ball out of the ground. He first plundered 22 runs off the 19th over which was bowled by Rubel Hossain and then went on hit a magical flat six off the last delivery to send the Indian and Sri Lankan fans into a frenzy. While there was a huge uproar in the Stadium after India’s victory, there was a section of Bangladeshi fans who were in a state of shock and couldn’t help themselves but cry disconsolately.
