India has had a stupendous campaign against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation. After their successful run of form, India will now play a triangular T20 tournament in Sri Lanka featuring the hosts and Bangladesh. However, the team management has decided to rest quite a few of the senior cricketers. Virat Kohli has been rested which also means Rohit Sharma will lead the side in the series. Nevertheless, despite Chandika Hathurasingha, reckoned the Indians as favourites ahead of the opening game.
Rohit – Anyone can win on their day
Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma recently spoke to the media regarding India’s chances. “Whether we are favourites or not, that is not something I think about. T20 is such a format where any team can win on that particular day.
The game can change in a span of one over, it can slip away … On a given day, any team can beat anyone. How do I explain it? It’s like the English Premier League. Some teams may be stronger, but anyone can win on a given day.” Rohit said.
The Mumbai cricketer also highlighted the significance of resting cricketers while expressing his delight of being crowned as the skipper. “Given the schedule nowadays and the amount of cricket we play, it’s important to look after players and give them enough rest when needed. Whenever I’ve been asked to put on the captaincy cap, it’s been an honour,” he added.
Rohit Sharma has led the Indian team in four T20Is and has remained unbeaten thus far. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are no pushovers by any stretch of the imagination, and Rohit has a task on their hands against their Asian counterparts. India will play Sri Lanka in the first game of the tournament on March 6 at the iconic R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
