The Nidahas Trophy 2018, the ongoing triangular T20I series featuring Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh is currently underway. The games are being broadcast by DSport and Rishtey Cineplex. While the former is a sports channel, the latter is a popular movie channel. DSport had previously hosted the T20 series between the World XI and Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

However, this is the first instance when Rishtey Cineplex is telecasting a cricket series. Cricket matches in India generate tremendous buzz and subsequently, the Total Rating Points (TRP) escalates significantly. With the likes of Set Max, Zee Cinema and Movies OK around, the channel isn’t regarded as an overly popular channel in the movie genre.

Rishtey Cineplex- atop movie genres

However, the T20 tournament has ensured that the TRP of the channel surpasses every other movie channel. As per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data, Rishtey has generated the top TRPs during the India-Sri Lanka and India-Bangladesh games during Week 10 from March 3 to March 9. Meanwhile, DSport, the broadcaster who procured the rights for the Nidahas Trophy, has struggled to generate impressions and are lagging way behind than Rishtey Cineplex.

Rishtey has approximately 545 million impressions compared to 130 million on DSport. DD Sport, a mandatory broadcaster under (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharti) Act, 2007, has procured 144 million clicks. The data for the upcoming week is also expected to be on the higher side as it will carry a couple of Indian victories against Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka. The final will also feature the Men in Blue, which is bound to generate substantial hike in TRPs.

The tournament is currently in its business end with one league match remaining between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.  India have been absolutely stupendous having won three out of their four games. They started the series as firm favourites and will be looking to win the Nidahas Trophy with another comprehensive performance.
