A senior official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that the upcoming five-match T20I home series against South Africa will not require the players to undergo quarantine or stay under bio-bubble. Bio-bubbles have been implemented ever since Covid-19 captured the world to ensure the safety of the players but it had highly affected the players’ mental health and many players have withdrawn from taking part in a few series as well.

IPL 2020 and the second half of IPL 2021 had to be shifted to UAE due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country, but the present situation is far better. The ongoing IPL 2022 edition saw crowds being allowed inside the stadium in India but still, the players have been instructed to stay in a bio-bubble. The number of quarantine days have come down considerably and the restrictions have slowly started to ease for the players too.

The senior official mentioned there will be no bio-bubble or quarantine for the upcoming T20Is against South Africa alongside the tour of Ireland and England as well. He explained how the players have exhausted being in bio bubbles including the two month period for the ongoing IPL. The T20I series between India and South Africa will start on June 9 after the IPL 2022 comes to an end.

“If all goes well and things remain in control like it is right now, there will be no bio-bubbles and hard quarantine during the home series against South Africa,” said a senior BCCI official as quoted by The New Indian Express.

“Then we are going to Ireland and England and there won’t be any bio-bubble in those countries too. Some players have got periodic breaks but if you look at the bigger picture, living in bio-bubble one series after another and now two months of IPL is simply exhausting for the players,” he added.
