As the T20 World Cup 2021 is inching closer, the major international teams have shifted their focus on the showpiece event. The IPL 2021 UAE leg would be played just before the commencement of the T20 WC and would act as a great push-up for the players moving into the big event. In the same light, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting stated that IPL would be great preparation for the Kangaroos.

Ponting added that players who are not in touch should get back in the form to start gearing up for the showpiece event. Playing IPL 2021 would be beneficial for them a lot as it would be played on the same conditions of UAE and players will get hold of the tactics they will have to acquire while stepping up in the T20 WC 2021.

“Those guys that haven’t played for three or four months now, they need to get back into the groove of playing high-quality cricket against the best players in the world. No doubt it’s their best preparation to be in those exact conditions, playing in probably the strongest domestic T20 tournament in the world,” said Ponting as quoted by cricket.com.au while talking with Australia Test captain Tim Paine in a conversation on SEN radio.

Pat Cummins to miss the UAE leg of IPL 2021

Talking about high-profile Australian players who wouldn’t be going in the IPL 2021, Pat Cummins stands as the biggest name. He already made it clear that he will be spending time with his fiancé as they are expecting their first child. Australian limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch also underwent knee surgery two days back and would be racing against time to get fit before the arrival of the T20 World Cup 2021.

“For the second half of this season, it’s going to be really tough to get over there. We’ll see how it plays out but at this stage, it might be a bit too hard, but with the World Cup straight after that, I’m hoping to be good to go for that,” said Cummins earlier in his Vlog on YouTube.
