Team India is scheduled to play Asia Cup soon after the ongoing England tour. The tournament will start on September 15 and the Men in Blue will be playing two back-to-back matches against the qualifying team and Pakistan on 18 and 19. The BCCI is livid over the schedule and has called it mindless. However, Dean Jones doesn’t find anything wrong in it and believes that the cricketers are extremely fit nowadays and they shouldn’t complain.

Even Virender Sehwag had lashed out at the organisers and had called the team to boycott the competition. The startling thing in the schedule is only India is playing 2 matches on consecutive days while all other teams will enjoy a significant break between their games. Pakistan, before facing India, will be coming of a two-day break which is good enough to recover.

But the former Australian cricketer Dean Jones is of the opinion that there shouldn’t be any problem. He also recalled the time when he had to play for 11 days in a row thrice during one of their England tours.

“We used to play a lot of back-to-back one-day matches in our time, so why are the players complaining now? They play five-day Test matches. I remember on an England tour, we played 11 days in a row three times. I know it’s a bit warm, but that’s why they get the big bucks these days,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

These guys are unbelievably fit

The 57-year-old was confident of the fitness of the players and also went on to say that nobody will die after playing on consecutive days. “I have got no problem (in India playing two days consistently). Fatigue might be a problem, but these guys are athletes and unbelievably fit. They will be fine. I could say this, no one will die,” Jones added.

The format of the Asia Cup has been changed this time around according to which the arch-rivals will meet at least twice. If they manage to qualify for the final, then it will happen after a long time that the two teams will square off thrice in 12 days.
