All-rounder Imad Wasim said that he had no regrets after Babar Azam replaced him as the skipper of the Karachi Kings ahead of the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL). Back in 2020, Wasim led the Kings to their maiden PSL title with a victory over Lahore Qalandars at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Wasim joined the Kings back in the inaugural edition in 2016 and has picked up 36 wickets from 59 matches. The southpaw has also scored handy runs for them in the middle-order. The left-hander, meanwhile, lauded Azam for leading the Pakistan national team with a lot of efficiency.

“Babar Azam is the captain of Karachi Kings in my place. I have no regrets about being removed from the leadership. Babar Azam is leading Pakistan in a brilliant manner as he has groomed himself really well,” Wasim was quoted as saying to the reporters in Karachi.

Babar started his career with Islamabad United after which he moved to the Kings. The Lahore-born batter is currently the all-time leading run-scorer in the history of the PSL, having amassed 2070 runs from 58 matches at an average of 43.12 and a strike rate of 121.55.

The youngster was grateful and over the moon after being named the Kings’ skipper. “This is such an honour for me that the whole team, including Imad Bhai, has entrusted me with the captaincy of our beloved Karachi Kings team. This means the world to me,” Babar said.

“I will work as hard as possible to take the team to even greater heights than what we’ve already achieved so far. Karachi and the Kings is my home and family away from home and my promise is that I will give it my all to make sure we keep on growing toward bigger and better things,” he said.

The Kings are set to start their PSL 2022 campaign on Thursday, January 27 with the match against Multan Sultans at the National Stadium. The Kings made the playoffs in the previous edition after winning five out of 10 games, but they bowed out of the tournament after losing to the Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator 1.
