Indian U19 side led by Mumbai-born Prithvi Shaw thumped the Australians in the finals to register their record 4th title. India’s dominance in the tournament was such that they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Shaw led the side brilliantly in the final whole shuffling the bowling quite intelligently, to say the least. The Australians were set to cross the 250-run mark which would’ve been a challenging score in the finals. The Indian bowlers pulled back things as they chipped in with wickets at regular intervals.

Indian batsmen were too strong in the run chase as Shaw along with Manjot Kalra provided a great start. Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batsman Harvik Desai contributed significantly for the men in blue as they chased down the total as well as the title quite easily in the end.

Prithvi Shaw while speaking to Indian Express, said that he can not express what he was feeling after achieving the feat.  “There a lot of memories created. I can’t express, what I am feeling right now. I am just happy,” Shaw told.

No superstition or good luck charm on jersey number: Shaw

He during his conversation with Indian Express revealed that there is not superstition or anything behind his jersey number which happens to be 100. “I like the number. In Hindi (sau) it sounds like my surname Shaw,” he told Indian Express.

Shaw was exceptional for the Indians at the top as he provided a brilliant foundation in almost all the games. He along with Kalra were instrumental in giving the side a great start. They had a perfect foil in the form of vice-captain Shubhman Gill who won player of the series award for his magnificent run throughout the series.

Indian bowling unit was instrumental too as they bowled out the opponents in all the games. Spinner Anukul Roy was joint leading wicket-taker of the tournament while Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s pace was too hot to handle for the opponents. Ishan Porel too rose to the occasion in the knockout games as he performed brilliantly with an injury.
