'Nobody is bigger than the game' - Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur reacts to Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma rumoured rift

Over the last few days, there have been several rumours floating around that there is a rift between two Indian cricketing heavyweights, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kohli was also recently removed as the captain of the Indian side in ODI cricket, and the ‘Hitman’ will now lead the ‘Men in Blue’ in limited-overs cricket. Kohli will continue to lead the Indian Test side.

And now, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has opined that no player is bigger than the sport. Adding that he cannot give information to the media about what is happening in the Indian dressing room, Thakur said that it is the BCCI’s job to do so.

“Sports is supreme and nobody is bigger than sport. I can’t you give information as to what’s going on between which players in what game. It’s the job of concerned federations/associations. It’ll be better if they give info,” said Anurag Thakur as quoted by News 18.

Both Kohli and Rohit should understand what is good for the team: Saba Karim

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should understand what is better for the Indian cricket team. Karim also opined that what other people say does not make any difference in this regard.

“I feel in the end both players, especially Virat Kohli at this moment, will have to understand what is good for the team. What Sourav has said or someone else has said, how does that make a difference,” concluded Saba Karim.

India will play 3 Tests and 3 ODIs against South Africa. India’s tour to South Africa will commence on 26th December 2021, with the 1st Test taking place at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
