'Not an occassion' - Gautam Gambhir blasts people for bursting crackers amid Coronavirus outbreak

Indian citizens were scheduled to light candles, diyas, and torches on 5th of April at 9 pm for 9 minutes as requested by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Meanwhile, some people instead of lighting candles, started bursting firecrackers on the occasion.

On 3rd April, Narendra Modi, the honourable Indian PM requested every single individual in India to light off their houses and burn candles and diyas to show their support in the battle against Coronavirus pandemic. Millions of people including Bollywood actors, ministers and cricketers came out in their balconies with burning candles and diyas.

Gautam Gambhir lashes out on people for burning crackers

The activity was scheduled for just nine minutes starting from 9 pm. But, some people extended it further by burning crackers like it was the festival of Diwali and it continued for more than an hour. On one side, COVID-19 is getting spread at a high rate. In the meantime, people flaunted off their insensitivity by burning crackers.

With every day passing, the death rate is increasing across the globe that has brought human life to a standstill. Countries including the UK, India and Italy are under lockdown to bring down the number of infected cases with Coronavirus to a halt. Even the health officials have also shared the guidelines with the people that they can opt as a precaution from getting infected with the deadly virus.

Earlier, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan had shared their views over people burning crackers in lockdown. Now, Gautam Gambhir has joined the bandwagon. He took to his Twitter handle and said that the country is still fighting with Coronavirus.

There is no point of burning crackers in such situations. He also requested everyone to just stay inside in their houses until COVID-19 pandemic comes under control. The former World Cup winner post read, “INDIA, STAY INSIDE!. We are still in the middle of a fight. Not an occasion to burst crackers!”
