"I'm discussing with Andrew Strauss, whether to come back out here to the IPL or to get cracking with Surrey in the Royal London," quoted Roy.

English opener Jason Roy is pondering over having a stint with Surrey in the Royal London Cup before heading in to the Champions Trophy 2017. The English players were a huge attraction in the Indian Premier League auctions this year. Roy was one of the big names in the pool. Surprisingly enough, he found no takers in the first round. He was subsequently bagged by the Gujarat Lions in the second round of the auctions.

Coming into the tournament, he was drafted straight into the playing eleven for the team’s opening fixture. Since then, he has made three appearances for the team but has failed to leave an imprint. He has not been a regular member of the side and that is something the youngster is bothered about. England is due to host Ireland for limited overs fixtures this May.

The players participating in the IPL will be heading back to England at the halfway stage of the T20 league. They, however, will have the option to either stay back in England or come back for the later stages of the IPL. In essence, the likes of Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings and Jason Roy will have this option to pick from.

As per the reports in the Mirror.co.UK, Jason Roy recently commented that he might consider the option of staying back in England and participate in the 50 overs domestic tournament. He will get 3 matches to play for Surrey. Citing the reason for this, Roy mentioned that he anyway is not getting too many chances in the tournament here in India. Also, having Champions Trophy in mind, it would be better if he focuses on the 50 overs cricket.

“I’m discussing with Andrew Strauss, whether to come back out here to the IPL or to get cracking with Surrey in the Royal London. I think it is probably a good idea to get my head round 50-over cricket as much as possible especially if I’m not really playing a huge amount out here in India, it is just a bit of a waste really,” quoted Jason Roy.

“I’m due to come back for the Ireland game and then after that I could have three games for Surrey before the South Africa series so that would be great preparation I think. I’m in good form, but there is not much I can do about selection,” he added further.

Despite not being a regular member of the playing eleven for Gujarat Lions, the English opener is keeping his spirits high. He remarked that he is trying everything that he can to improve his game even during his stint at the IPL. He would be happy to get a couple of more matches before heading back to England.

“I’m definitely making the most of it and doing things that will benefit me not just now but over the next couple of months with the Champions Trophy coming up. Of course it would be nice to get a couple more opportunities to show what I’m really about,” conceded Roy.
