Out of favour Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan recently posted a picture of him working hard at the gym on a popular photo-sharing social media platform. The left-handed batsman added a caption, “Sometimes life knock u down even when you work really hard for it!!! I am not the one who gonna keep lying der. I get up again and work hard to chase my dreams again. Nothing can stop you if u dont stop”.

Dhawan had an injury scare as he went straight to the hospital after the team reached Kolkata for the third and final ODI against England on Sunday. He had some ‘issues’ with his left thumb that had sustained a minor fracture after the second Test versus New Zealand in October. “He went to consult in the radiology department and was there for more than an hour,” a local official was quoted by Indian Express.

The Delhi southpaw, who scored 1 and 11 in the first two ODIs in Pune and Cuttack respectively, is going through a rough patch and was dropped for the 3rd ODI against Eoin Morgan’s men. Ajinkya Rahane was picked in place of Dhawan. Rahane had scored a gritty innings of 91 during the 2nd practice game against England, before the start of the ODI series.

Earlier, ‘Gabbar’ as he is popularly known, found support from former legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar. Sunny backed Dhawan to come good and said he still prefers Dhawan as a second opener after Rohit Sharma. “India have not started well in all the three matches. Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni are not going to score in every matches and someone needs to take the responsibility. Openers lack of form has been a worry but I think once Rohit Sharma is fit, he will be the automatic choice and I would still go for Shikhar Dhawan as the second opener,” Gavaskar was quoted saying by NDTV.
