Australian limited-overs specialist opener Aaron Finch is still dreaming of wearing a baggy green for his country in the longest format of the game. He is a regular member of the ODI and T20I setup for a long time now for Australia but has never got picked to play Tests. Moreover, the team in whites under the leadership of Steve Smith is looking fairly stable currently and is doing well. However, Finch has cleared that the top ambition in his career is to play Test cricket and is very upbeat about the same.

The 31-year-old has played 72 first-class matches for Victoria so far and has amassed 4232 runs at an average of 37.42. He has scored only 7 centuries to go with 27 half-centuries and even he realises that he hasn’t done enough to break into the Test side. Finch recently smashed 151 in the ongoing Sheffield Shield season against Western Australia and believed that the knock could be the turning point in his career.

I need to keep making more hundreds

Aaron Finch, while speaking to cricket.com.au felt that he needs to convert a couple of half-centuries into big hundreds to grab the attention of the selectors. “I need to keep making more hundreds. I’ve made quite a few fifties over the last couple of years, and sixties and seventies but not really gone on to get the big match-winning hundred. So hopefully this week in Perth was a bit of a turning point. My number one ambition is to play Test cricket,” he said.

He also understands the fact that there are a lot of players in line ahead of him who are eager to play for the country. “Having represented Australia around 120, 130 times in the other two formats it would be nice to contribute to that in the Tests. It’s still a long way off, there’s a lot of good players in front of me at the moment. But I can just keep trying to put some scores on the board and see how we go from there,” Finch added.
