New Zealand completed an innings win over West Indies in the Hamilton Test as they needed a little over an hour on the 4th day to pick the remaining three wickets of the visiting team. Resuming the day on 196/6, the Caribbean team got to 244/6 as Jermaine Blackwood (104) scored a hundred whereas Alzarri Joseph struck 86. The 155-run partnership for the 7th wicket was broken by Neil Wagner while Kyle Jamieson picked up two more wickets in the next over as New Zealand seal an innings and 134-run victory.

Here are all the statistical highlights from New Zealand’s innings victory in the first NZ vs WI Test:

New Zealand’s unbeaten streak at home:

14 – New Zealand have not lost any of their last 14 matches at home in Test cricket. The Kiwis won as many as ten of them while another four games ended in a draw. New Zealand also won six of the seven home Tests they played since the beginning of 2019.

5West Indies have ended up on the losing side in each of their last five Test matches played on New Zealand soil. West Indies also lost each of their last 11 completed matches in International cricket on New Zealand soil.


Yet another defeat for Holder while batting second:

15 – Jason Holder has lost a total of 15 Test matches while batting second as captain; the joint 2nd most for any captain. Brian Lara and Graeme Smith also lost 15 Test matches each while batting second but Alastair Cook leads the list with 16 defeats. Holder lost eight of those 15 Test when he won the toss only; the most such defeats for any skipper in Test history.

11 – Only 11 times a team electing to bowl first have lost a Test in New Zealand since the start of 2010. The hosts New Zealand were the victorious team in all those 11 Test matches.


Alzarri’s record knock:

86 – Alzarri Joseph’s 86-run knock is now the 2nd highest by a No.8 or lower batsman while following on in Test cricket. The highest score is 89 by Kapil Dev against England during the 1982 Lord’s Test.

86 – Alzarri’s aggregate of 86 runs is the joint 5th highest by a No.8 or lower batsman in a Test match where they bagged a duck. West Indies’ Gerry Alexander (0 & 108) during the 1961 Sydney Test against Australia is the only player to score a century and a duck in the same Test while batting at No.8 or lower.

  


Blackwood’s hundred while following on:

2013 – Jermaine Blackwood, with his 104, became the 11th player to score a century while following on in Test cricket for West Indies. Blackwood is also the first to score a century while following on for West Indies since Darren Bravo in the 2013 Dunedin Test against New Zealand where he scored 218.
