After losing the World Test Championship (WTC) Final to New Zealand, India skipper Virat Kohli didn’t waste any time in clarifying that he was never in favour of deciding the best team based on a single match. He was of the opinion that a series of three matches should be played to attain a winner in Tests as the tournament is played over the course of two years.

His counterpart in the final, Kane Williamson has seconded Kohli’s opinion on the matter saying that the one-off final never really depicts the whole picture. He also lauded team India stating the Kohli-led side is very much formidable and has quality players in the set up.

New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the WTC Final to become the inaugural champions of the competition. Rain dominated for the first few days before tables turned on India on the reserve day with the Kiwis being extremely brilliant with the ball.

“The set-up provides excitement. One-off final, it never really tells the whole picture,” Kane Williamson said while speaking to India Today. As we know, this Indian team is a formidable side. It’s a great side and we are proud to achieve a win in this match but it doesn’t take away anything from the fact that how strong they are and what quality they have,” he added.

India have best pace attack in the world

Kane Williamson, meanwhile, has no doubt that the current Indian team will go on to win plenty more matches in the future. He termed the pace attack as the best ever while also lauding the spinners and the star-studded batting line-up. “No doubt they will win plenty more, you know their quality.

“They are relentless, they have a pace-attack which is best in the world, incredible spin bowlers and batting needs no mention. The depth that they have created,” the 30-year-old further said. The Kiwi captain also called the Indian players as the ambassadors of the game while also taking a liking towards the emotions that fans bring to the sport.

“Emotion that a country brings for sport, we can all appreciate having India and their passion is rewarding. They (players) hold themselves as ambassadors of the game,” Williamson said.
