West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has been roped in by the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants for a sum of INR 8.75 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction on Saturday. He was one of the high-profile names during the two-day event as he has been showcasing consistent performances at the highest level. The tall cricketer had taken four consecutive wickets in the series-deciding fifth T20I against a formidable England recently. Thus, he proved that he can be a handy bowler at the death.
There was an intense bidding war for having Holder on board as Lucknow and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings were interested in having him for this season. The inaugural edition winners Rajasthan Royals, as well as the five-time champions Mumbai Indians, also showed interest in having him in their team before the Super Giants outbid everyone to stake their claim on the T20 World Cup winner.

8.75 Cr for Jason Holder by Lucknow Super Giants. He gets the highest ever bid for a West Indian at an #IPLAuction. His worth is finally realised. Top all-round cricketer. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo joins Chennai Super Kings once again for 4.40 Cr.

Jason Holder does extract steep bounce, but I really don't think that necessitated having a keeper behind your first keeper. https://t.co/Ks5A4g3fy3

Jason Holder’s IPL career
Jason Holder had a base price of INR 1.5 crore coming into the IPL 2022 mega auction before two teams tried to have him on board at a premium price as the bidding war got intense and the player price shot up phenomenally. The Barbados cricketer was released by the 2016 winners was not retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad, who named skipper Kane Williamson and the Jammu and Kashmir uncapped duo of Abdul Samad and Umran Malik as their three retentions.
Holder, who had the first burst onto the scene in the IPL back in 2013, began his career for the Chennai Super Kings before being roped in by SRH in the next season. After missing the 2015 season, the 30-year-old was roped in by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 and after a three-year hiatus, the middle-order batter was back at the marquee event and was bought by the Orange Army in 2020 where he finished with 14 wickets in seven matches.
Even though the team struggled in the 2021 season, he was impactful with the ball in hand bagging 16 wickets from eight outings. Jason Holder has so far scored 189 runs and registered 35 scalps from 26 appearances in the IPL.
