South Africa, over the years, has been deemed as a difficult side to topple at home. They have been clinical against most oppositions and registered victories pretty consistently. However, lately, they haven’t had much to cheer about as they slumped to a series victory against India. Meanwhile, the Proteas also surrendered their top-rankings in One Day Internationals to the Men in Blue.

After losing the series, South Africa would hope to salvage pride in the dead-rubber at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. However, every curse comes with a blessing. In the same way, every defeat brings positivity as it helps a team identify their loopholes and refurbish the lineup accordingly. Nevertheless, Ottis Gibson, the Proteas coach, sounded confident and vowed to learn from their mistakes.

Lessons for South Africa

“It’s been a good lesson and in a year’s time, I think it will prove to have been a good lesson to learn right now. We’ve got a good hiding from India, let’s not kid ourselves about that, but it’s also given us a lot of food for thought going forward. Twelve months from now we’ll be a lot stronger for having had this experience.” Gibson was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

The former Windies fast-bowler also hailed India for their stupendous show and emphasized the differences the differences between the oppositions. “A lot of credit has to go to India. In almost every game, one of their top three has scored a hundred. We’ve got one hundred and when you look at the series those are the differences,” the coach added

After a comprehensive victory in the Test series, South Africa couldn’t replicate their form in the 50-over format. However, they will be itching to storm back and humble India in the three-match T20 series which begins on the 18th of January at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
