Dale Steyn is a kind of bowler, who can swing the leather at sheer pace. He has ruffled a number of batsmen and even Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, said that Steyn was among the best bowlers, he ever faced. Steyn has now hung his boots from Test cricket and many cricketers from around the globe would be relieved that they won’t have to face him anymore in red-ball cricket.

Kane Williamson, the New Zealand all-format skipper, has a sharp technique and Steyn was able to breach his defence quite a few times. The Kiwis’ captain and Steyn Gun have played against each other in seven Tests, 10 ODIs and a solitary T20I. Kane remembered an incident when he was hit on the abdomen guard by Steyn, who later went on to give an autograph on the cricket gear.

After Steyn bid adieu to the longer version, Kane uploaded a picture of the autographed gear, congratulating him on a great career. Moreover, he captioned the picture and wrote, “The box @dalesteyncracked back in 2013 – OUCH! Kind of him to sign it after the match though Congratulations on an incredible Test career mate #steyn#alwayswearabox,”

Here is Williamson’s post

Over the last few years, Steyn’s international career has been marred by a number of injury concerns owing to which he has been in and out of the national team. Earlier this year, he injured his shoulder while playing for RCB in the IPL and was later ruled out of the cash-rich tournament. To add insult to injury, the speedster couldn’t take part even in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

Even as he announced his retirement, Steyn said that he wished to prolong his journey in T20I and ODI cricket. In 93 Tests, Steyn ended as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in the format with 439 scalps and 26 five-wicket hauls. He made his debut back in 2004 against England in Port Elizabeth and played his last Test at the very venue earlier this year against Sri Lanka in February.

As far as Williamson is concerned, he recently captained the Black Caps to the final of the World Cup, though his team lost the final against England in an agonizing manner. He was also their leading run-scorer in the mega event with two centuries to his name.
