Pakistan started their three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe on a grand note. In the first game at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Babar Azam and Co emerged victorious by six wickets. Chamu Chibhabha’s men weren’t a pushover though by any stretch of the imagination.

After electing to bat first, Wesley Madhevere’s unbeaten 48-ball 70 took Zimbabwe to a reasonable score of 156 runs. Defending the score, to their dismay, they couldn’t make enough breakthroughs and Pakistan chased the target down with seven balls to spare.

The visitors won’t be getting much breathing space as the second T20I is set to be played on Sunday, November 8. For the home team, they will be looking to close out the series. But Zimbabwe would want to make it tough for their opponent.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in the first T20I turned out to be a fairly decent one for batting. Babar Azam and Madhevere showed that run-making wasn’t all that tough by any means. Chasing should be the way forward, keeping in mind the dew factor in the second half of the match.

The temperature will be around the 21 degrees Celsius mark. The humidity won’t be high with the numbers in the high-40s.

Average first innings score – 174 (3 matches played in PSL 2020)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 3; Lost – 0; NR – 0

Probable Top Performers for PAK vs ZIM

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

Babar Azam showed tremendous form in the opening match. The right-hander scored 82 runs off 55 balls with the help of nine fours and one six. He got out in the 17th over, but by then, he had already put Pakistan on the driver’s seat.

It also got his T20I average over the 50-mark. In 42 T20Is, the 26-year-old Lahore-born has notched 15 half-centuries, showing his stupendous levels of consistency.

Sean Williams (Zimbabwe)

Sean Williams came into the series on the back of some stupendous form. The left-hander had knocks of 75 and 118* and he wasn’t short of confidence by any means.

Even in the opening T20I, the southpaw smashed four fours and was looking good for another substantial knock. However, Usman Qadir castled him to end his stay. He would be looking for another decent show with the bat.
