Pakistan Army Chief meets the players in their dressing room in South Africa

General Qamar Javed Bajwa paid a surprise visit to the Pakistan dressing room in South Africa during the fifth ODI. Apart from holding the top position in the Army, Bajwa is an avid cricket follower. Like millions of other people in the country, he admires the sport and has got a special liking for the same.

During his personal trip to South Africa, he had an opportunity to meet the team in Newlands. He didn’t miss the chance and surprised the players with his presence in the dressing room. General Bajwa had an interaction with all the cricketers and exchanged pleasantries with them. The players were taken aback when the Army man shared his knowledge about the sport.

Extensive knowledge about the players from the past

The Chief of Army Staff even had a special interaction with the team’s assistant manager and former cricketer Mansoor Rana. The General recalled Masoor’s late father and famous umpire Shakoor Rana. He also told Mansoor that he knew about his uncle Sultan Rana who was a good cricketer and an exceptionally good fielder.

According to Geo News, team manager Talat Ali was informed about General Bajwa’s presence in the VIP box. He was enjoying the game of cricket while Ali went to invite him. The team manager invited him to the dressing room and requested him to encourage the players. Talat Ali also quoted General Bajwa saying that he used to play cricket in his younger days.

However, Pakistan ended up losing the fifth ODI by 7 wickets and thus also lost the series. Batting first, the team put up 240 runs on the board. However, special knocks from Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen ensured that the team got over the line with ten overs to spare.
