The relationship between India and Pakistan has been strained for a long time. The two countries haven’t played any bilateral cricket since 2012 and the teams only face in the ICC events and the Asia Cup. However, the situation seems to be improving given the recent exchange of communications between the Prime Ministers of the two countries.

India is currently fighting against the second wave of Coronavirus which is said to be more contagious. The virus is spreading fast and the country is reporting more than 3 lakh cases per day for the last 48 hours. Even the rate of people dying at the moment is very scary as a whopping 2624 reportedly passed away due to the virus.

During these tough times, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his solidarity with the people of India and has also prayed for the speedy recovery of everyone. He also reckoned that both the countries should fight this global challenge together.

“I want to express our solidarity with the people of India as they battle a dangerous wave of COVID-19. Our prayers for a speedy recovery go to all those suffering from the pandemic in our neighbourhood & the world. We must fight this global challenge confronting humanity together,” Imran Khan wrote in his tweet.

India and Pakistan last faced in the World Cup 2019

As for India and Pakistan, the two teams last faced in the 2019 World Cup played in England. The Virat Kohli-led side continued its unbeaten record in the World Cups against their arch-rivals. Pakistan are yet to beat India in the World Cups since first meeting in 1992.

Interestingly, India haven’t lost to the Men in Green in T20 World Cups as well. In the inaugural edition, the league match between the two teams was tied and India had won the game in Bowl Out. The two sides had met in the final as well but MS Dhoni’s prevailed in the thriller lifting the trophy. Since then, Pakistan have never managed to beat India.

The arch-rivals were expected to lock horns this year in the Asia Cup. But the tournament has been postponed once again to 2022 and if all goes well, they will face each other in the T20 World Cup to be played in India. The PCB was skeptical about getting Visas for its players but the issue has been resolved now.
