The Men in Green were on a high in their celebrations after whitewashing the Sri Lankan team 3-nil in the T20I series. The last game which was played in Lahore once again ended the hosts’ way as they won by 36 runs. With this thumping victory over the Lankans, Pakistan now is on the brink of being the top-ranked T20 international team.

Ever since Sarfraz Ahmed took up the T20I captaincy, Pakistan’s consistency has been quite fluent with 12 victories in the 14 games they’ve played under him. When it comes to the limited-overs captaincy, the Men in Green have seen some excellent results under his leadership.

The Current Ranking Scenario

New Zealand is currently at the top of the table. The home team after securing a whitewash managed to close the gap between the 1st and the 2nd ranked teams to just one point. As the Kiwis are scheduled to play a three-match series against India, the prospect of them losing the same may propel Pakistan to the No.1 spot.

Talking about the other teams, India is at a distant fifth position while WT20 champions West Indies and runners-up England are placed at third and fourth positions respectively in the rankings. They also have a difference of just one point which goes on to portray the competitiveness in this format.

Emerging Player’s Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan next year

Following the successful tours of World XI and now the one-off T20I game against Sri Lanka, Pakistan is all set to host a six-nation Asia Cup of emerging players in April next year. PCB chairman Najam Sethi made the announcement saying, “All five full members of the ICC i.e. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will compete in the vent while one team would be selected through a qualifying round.”
