The 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to get underway in a couple of days. Ahead of the tournament opener, the organizers of the coveted T20 league have unveiled the trophy for the tournament. The 6 franchises of the tournament this year will be competing for the ultimate glory in the competition to lift this trophy.
The trophy for the Pakistan Super League 2018 was unveiled in a ceremony that took place at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, in Dubai. It is a glittering trophy dripping in gold. The trophy has a glimmering top with a crescent moon and a star embossed in it. This is the national symbol for the nation and also for the Pakistan Cricket Board.
A firm base holds the entire trophy that is set to amaze the fans and get them overawed about it. Certainly, the captains of the six participating franchises would be itching to get their hand around this precious trophy.
Evolution of the PSL
Over the last couple of years, the Pakistan Super League has only grown from strength to strength. The 2018 edition of the PSL promises to be a bigger and a grander affair than the previous two editions of the tournament. Ever since the first edition, which was played in the year of 2016, PSL has managed to garner a huge fan base.
The 2017 edition of the tournament was marred by the spot fixing controversy early on in the tournament. But as the tournament progressed, the focus shifted to some exciting brand of cricket. Furthermore, the PSL 2017 had the finals held in Lahore. The match proved to be the gateway for international cricket players to return to the Pakistani soil.
In the match, it was the Darren Sammy-led Peshawar Zalmi who lifted the silverware. And now, the 2018 edition of the tournament is all set to get underway. A new franchise has been added to the roster – the Multan Sultans. In the season opener, which will be played on February 22, the defending champions Zalmi will take on the new entrants Sultans.
