Pakistan would have liked to play two leg-spinners in the upcoming Test series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates, but their plans have been spoiled as Shadab Khan has been ruled out of the opening Test in Dubai. The bowler had picked up a groin injury in the Asia Cup, and reports confirmed he is yet to recover from it. However, chances are that he may get to play the second Test match.

This is a huge blow for Pakistan as Shadab is a brilliant batsman as well and has bailed the team out of the trouble batting at number seven or eight. The fact that averages he averages more than 30 in the format is the testament to the same.

Who is the replacement?

According to the ESPN Cricinfo, the Bilal Asif will be replacing Shadab Khan in the match and will be hoping to make it count on his debut. The return of Mohammad Hafeez, who was added to the squad later, is also set to make a comeback in the longer format after a long time. His off-spin credentials will be crucial for Pakistan as well.

As far as the Test squad is concerned, Pakistan still possess the threat of spinners with Yasir Shah. He was Australia’s chief tormentor when they toured the UAE four years ago and will be itching to make the same impact again. The hosts also look strong in the batting department with the presenc of Babar Azam, Azhar Ali among many others.

The two-match Test series is all set to commence on October 7 and the weakened Australian side will be relieved with Shadab Khan not playing the series opener. After the Test series, the two teams will lock horns in the three T20 Internationals which will start on October 24.
