In another huge success for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) the West Indies team is set to tour the country for a three-match T20I series. The matches were earlier expected to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore but the PCB has been actively trying to add other venues to the list and expand their hosting abilities and it bore fruit.

The latest development of the series suggests that Karachi will be hosting all the three matches between Pakistan and Windies. PCB chairman Najam Sethi announced that West Indies will travel to the country in early April and all the three matches will be hosted by the National Stadium in Karachi. The game are slated to be played on April 1, 2 and 4.

PCB and CW ink the deal

This will mark the first international match in the state after the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. Sethi announced that he has been working extensively to ensure Cricket Windies (WC) agrees on the series and they’ve finally inked the deal.

“I have been working day and night to conclude an agreement with West Indies which I have just finalised an hour ago,” Sethi said.

After successfully hosting a few matches in Lahore PCB’s plan is to now add Karachi to the cricketing map. The local government of Sindh has also agreed to pledge their support in hosting the game and that further eased PCB’s task.

“Good news is that West Indies will play three games, on [April, 1, 2 and 4], but these matches will be played in Karachi. They will not play in Lahore but in Karachi. That is how we intend to put Karachi back on the cricket map once again. The PSL final, and now three more games for Karachi as per routine. Karachi people should welcome this.”

Sethi also tweeted saying, “Good news! West Indies have agreed to play 3 T20 matches in KARACHI on 1,2 and 4th April. CM Sindh is FULLY supporting this PCB initiative.”

Karachi will soon be hosting the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 3 which will be the first match at the venue and most overseas players playing the league have already agreed to travel to the country.
