IPL 2022 has seen some excellent performances this year by young and upcoming players and the highlight has been the abundance of young quicks, who have been impressive from the get-go. Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has picked his top-performing debutants for IPL 2022.

The southpaw, who played in the IPL for over a decade, representing five teams, was one of the few players to have won the IPL with both CSK and MI. In a recent chat with Cricbuzz, the three-time IPL winner revealed his top-performing debutants in this year’s edition. The list comprised two batters and three bowlers.

Here is Parthiv Patel’s list of five top-performing debutants of IPL 2022

1. Tilak Verma

Tilak Verma was the shining light in an abysmal season for Mumbai Indians. The 19-year-old bulwark was the lone fighter for the five-time champions several times. His composure in tough situations has garnered him praise from all corners, and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has touted the youngster to be an all-format player for the national side in the future. The southpaw ended his debut season with 397 runs, scoring at an impressive average of 36.09.

2. Jitesh Sharma

Among the plethora of young players on show in this year’s tournament, Jitesh Sharma has flown under the radar a little bit. Parthiv revealed his inclination towards a fellow wicketkeeper in the game as Jitesh has played some impressive cameos for a Punjab side filled with big hitters. The hard-hitting right-hander has scored 234 runs in 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 163.64.

3. Moshin Khan

One of the more obvious picks on the list, Mohsin Khan has arguably been the best debutant this season. The left-arm pacer has been absolutely brilliant for Lucknow Super Giants as he has scalped 14 wickets in nine games, going under just six runs per over. His ability to consistently hit the right line and length in the powerplay, coupled with his quick pace, was crucial for LSG this season as they finished 3rd in the table. Mohsin backed his 3/24 against Punjab Kings  and bagging four against Delhi for just 16 runs. The left-arm quick was unlucky to miss out on a berth in the Indian side but will certainly feature for the Blues in the future.

4. Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen has been one of the eye-catching debutants of the season. The right-arm pacer from Madhya Pradesh has troubled batters with rapid pace and bounce in IPL 2022. The Rajasthan Royals man has consistently hit the 140 mark on the speed gun and has promised to hit the 150 mark soon. His bowling performance against RCB, where he picked up four wickets, conceding just 20 runs, was one of the best fast bowling spells of the season. Although he faded away in the later stages of the tournament, he is certainly one to watch in the future.

5. Mukesh Choudhary

Just like their fierce competitors in the tournament, Chennai also endured an underwhelming season. But in a long list of failures among their squad this season, Mukesh Choudhary was one exception that stood out for the Yellow Army. Choudhary, in the absence of injured Deepak Chahar, was given the responsibility to open the bowling for CSK, and the left arm pacer delivered the goods for the yellow army. He was a constant nuisance for the batters in the powerplay as his ability to swing the ball came to the fore. The impressive seamer picked up 16 wickets in 13 games and promises to form a lethal partnership with Deepak Chahar next year.
