Former English skipper Paul Collingwood recently expressed his happiness over his County team Durham’s superlative win against Derbyshire. In the County Division 2 game, the Durham side thumped Derbyshire by 9 wickets. The kind of performance that the team came up with was something that seemed to have pleased their skipper a lot.

Paul Collingwood, himself, was at his prime best with a score of 177 to his name. This remains to be his highest score at Durham’s home venue in his career. The Durham skipper, in a recent conversation for the official website of the County team, remarked the win over Derbyshire as “complete performance from start to the finish”.

He further lauded the efforts of the bowlers in particular, quoting, “the bowlers were absolutely magnificent”. The bowlers had to bowl long spells in the game since the Derbyshire side was asked to follow on. Collingwood cited that they wish to perform in the same way in the remaining fixtures this season.

“We just want to keep this as a benchmark. This game that we played against Derbyshire is our benchmark. Hopefully we can continue putting teams under pressure. It does not matter where they are in the league,” conceded Paul Collingwood.

Talking about the course of the game, Durham posted a mammoth 480/9 in their first innings. Skipper Collingwood top scored with 177 and was supported by the fifties from Cameron Steel, Paul Coughlin, and Matty Potts. In response, Derbyshire bundled out for a paltry 164 as Grahan Onions bagged 4/44. They were asked to follow on by the Durham skipper.

Following on, they managed to scored 354 runs riding on a ton from opener Luis Reece. However, that could only fetch them a lead of 40 odd runs as Onions bagged a three-for yet again. Durham went past the target with 9 wickets in hand.
