BCCI has already announced the squad for T20 World Cup 2021 which is all set to kick off in the UAE from October 17. As the Indian cricket board came up with the squad in the late hours of September 08, 2021, many picks surprised the fans and cricket experts. India’s ace spinner Ravi Ashwin has been named in the squad and will mark his entry in the white-ball squad of India after four long years.

Former India legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar recently opened up regarding India’s selection of T20 WC and gave a little outrageous remark on Ashwin’s selection. Gavaskar referred to the spinner’s selection as a ‘consolation prize.’

The remark has come to the light when on India’s tour to England, Ashwin has not got even a single match so far. The former cricketer added that WC selection might just be a thing to make up for the England tour and it remains to be seen whether he will play in XI in T20 WC alongside India.

“Ashwin’s selection is good news for Indian cricket but whether he is included in the XI remains to be seen. He is chosen in the squad for the England test series but has not been given a game yet. Perhaps it is a consolation prize for Ashwin to make up for his disappointment of the Test series,” said Gavaskar while speaking to Sports Tak.

Indian team can reap the rewards of MS Dhoni’s presence: Sunil Gavaskar

Another surprising yet delightful event came up for fans when it was announced that MS Dhoni will take the role of mentor during India’s T20 WC tour in the UAE. One of the most successful skippers around the world, MS Dhoni’s presence with India in the high-profile event has certainly given his fans a huge share of happiness. Gavaskar called that India has won three ICC titles under Dhoni and India can surely reap the rewards of his presence.

“India won three ICC titles under MS Dhoni and if he stays within the Indian camp that the Indian team can reap the rewards of his presence,” added Gavaskar.
