The first day of the IPL 2022 mega auction is getting underway in Bangalore with full zeal and enthusiasm. In the same course of events, South African legend Faf du Plessis bagged big and walked with a price tag of INR 7 Crore as proposed by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He might be looked at as a captaincy option here. It is important to note that Du Plessis entered the mega auction while keeping himself in the list of marquee players that had 10 players in total.

The former CSK cricketer entered the mega event while proposing the base price of INR 2 crore. Du Plessis has been of huge significance not only in IPL but in various T20 leagues across the world. In the last season of IPL where CSK bagged the title for the fourth time, he played an essential role up the order to push the yellow side.

Faf du Plessis’ classy performance in IPL 2021

He gave flying starts to CS while opening the side with younger CSK counterpart Ruturaj Gaikwad. While Gaikwad walked away with the Orange Cap in IPL 2021, the Proteas star remained just two runs short to Gaikwad as he collected 633 runs under his belt, averaging 45.21. IPL 2021 was best in terms of his individual performance where he breached the 600-run club for the first time while striking at 138.20.

Ahead of IPL 2022, he was released by the yellow side as they chose to retain legendary skipper MS Dhoni, young star Ruturaj Gaikwad, and star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali. Talking of Du Plessis, in his total 100 IPL games so far, he has collected 2935 runs while averaging at 34.94. It remains to be seen how Du Plessis will kick start his journey in IPL 2022 where 10 teams will fight for the prestigious title.

Talking of the IPL history, Mumbai Indians have bagged the title for the maximum number of times ie five and they are followed by Chennai Super Kings with four titles in their kitty.
