Sammy is a similar type of captain like Imran Khan: Asif
Young Pakistan all-rounder Umaid Asif was very impressive in the recent PSL season for Peshawar Zalmi and scalped 13 wicked in the 12 matches, he played. During a recent conversation, Umaid spoke in high regards for his PSL skipper, Sammy, on how good a leader he is. Sammy led the Zalmi team to a remarkable winning triumph in the second edition of the PSL and also reached the finals in the third edition of the tournament. Apart from the massive success in domestic tournaments, Sammy-led Windies T20I team are also two-time winners of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
Asif mentioned that the West Indian all-rounder follows a pretty unique style of leadership, which has some similarities with former legendary Pakistan skipper Imran Khan. Imran is recognized as one of the most respectable and worthy captains to have ever led any respective cricket team. His major achievements include the 1992 World Cup trophy, where he captained an underrated Pakistan team to the glory. Asif noted that like Imran, Sammy also incorporates a positive attitude in the entire dressing room.
“We all know how good a captain Sammy is, as he has led his national team to two ICC titles. When it comes to his persona, it is unique and in terms of his leadership, to me, it is similar to what probably Imran Khan’s style of captaincy must have been. He has the same positive attitude that we know Khan had and as someone playing under this style of captaincy, you feel like always giving your hundred percent for the captain,” said Asif as quoted by PakPassion.
