A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court, seeking arrest of Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, and actress Tamannah, for the promotion of ‘online gambling’. The petition has been piled by a Chennai-based advocate and the petitioner has urged the MHC to ban online gambling apps. The petitioner believes that the young generation is getting addicted to gambling.

The 31-year-old Virat is currently busy, spending time at his residence with wife Anushka Sharma in the coronavirus pandemic. He last played in the two-match Test series against New Zealand earlier this year where he couldn’t get a whole lot of runs. As far as the petition goes, it says that gambling companies are using celebrities like Kohli and Tamannah to lure the youngsters into gambling.

Trouble for Virat Kohli

As per reports in Times Now, the petitioner wants both the stars to be sent behind the bars for promoting gambling. The petitioner didn’t mince any words in saying that in case any youngster dies by suicide, that person won’t be able to pay the money taken for online gambling. For the time being, it’s been learned that the case has been posted for a hearing on Tuesday, August 4.

For the last five months, Virat hasn’t played any cricket and must be raring to step on the pitch. Despite not being on the ground, he has managed to stay connected to the fans through his posts on the social media platforms. He has also lent his helping hand for the needy in the COVID-19 pandemic and has been making people aware of the needs to follow the government guidelines.

Moreover, he has featured on some live shows, including ‘Cricket Connected’ on Star Sports and also interacted with Bangladesh veteran Tamim Iqbal. He is next expected to take part in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to get underway on September 19 in the UAE.

In the T20 league, he plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but is yet to lead them to title glory. Kohli has been turning out for them since the inaugural edition back in 2008 and is the leading run-scorer in the IPL with five centuries, four of which came in 2016.
