Seasoned Indian leggie Piyush Chawla is all set to take the field for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The KKR veteran has worked very closely with youngster Kuldeep Yadav at the KKR setup over the last few seasons. He knows the game of the chinaman inside out, and has also played alongside him for the Uttar Pradesh team in the domestic circuit. Recently, he was all praises for his fellow bowler.
Piyush hailed Kuldeep for the fact that he never tagged himself as a mystery bowler. The chinaman stressed on honing his skills, rather than pushing for tags to get any kind of undue advantage over others. This very trait seems to have impressed Piyush who also cited that Kuldeep is not afraid of getting hit and bowls with a big heart. The high risk comes with high rewards option, and this has made the chinaman very successful.
“Kuldeep never labelled himself a mystery spinner. The term of being a mystery spinner is a myth. The main thing about Kuldeep is that he is a skillfull bowler. You need to make that skill powerful and Kuldeep is working on that. The main thing about Kuldeep is that he is not afraid of getting hit. I worked a lot with him in UP and here in KKR as well,” Chawla correctly pointed out as quoted by Sportstar.
On the Indian spinners for World Cup 2019
On a different note, he backed the chances of the Indian spinners doing well at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Chawla noted that the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep can succeed in English conditions. He feels that the wrist spinners will have a big role to play even if there are belters on the card for the teams on the match day.
“Kuldeep is bowling really well. He has been consistent in the last few months. With him and Chahal, I think India has two wicket taking wrist spinners. If there are belters in the World Cup, the responsibility of the wrist spinners will increase. It is an advantage for the leg spinners even in belters,” mentioned the veteran leggie.
On love affair with Eden
Talking about the IPL, Piyush did not shy away while praising the spin bowling unit of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He remarked that their bowlers can succeed at any given venue, but certainly, they do have a love affair with their home ground, the Eden Gardens.
“I think KKR has enough in their armoury to conquer any pitch. But obviously would love to play all the matches in Eden. I wish we play all our games here. I love the stadium and the support we receive there,” Chawla observed.
