Not a lot is going Punjab National Bank’s (PNB) way since it emerged that diamond merchant Nirav Modi and his associates had duped the bank for Rs 11,400 crore. Following the discovery, it was also reported that Indian captain Virat Kohli who is the brand ambassador of the bank has decided to end his term.
However, that is not the case as PNB in a statement on February 23 stated that Kohli continues to endorse the brand. They also clarified that the bank hasn’t appointed audit firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) as investigators in the fraud case and that the reports claiming so are “totally incorrect”.
Modi apparently fled from the country before the Central Beuro of Investigation (CBI) could file a case against him. There have been various rumours ever since the news broke and PNB also made it clear that the customers have no limits for the withdrawals and the bank is operating at normal terms.
PNB statement
Denying the media reports the PNB statement mentioned, “Mr Virat Kohli is our brand ambassador,” the bank said. “The same is again totally false and incorrect,” it added.
Virat is without a doubt the biggest face in Indian sporting circles, he has established a huge brand name for himself and is the highest paid cricketer in the world. He is at the top of his game scoring tons of runs across all the three formats of the game and has an enormous following.
In the ongoing tour of South Africa, he was the leading run-getter in the Test series as well as the ODIs where he scored more than 500 runs that included 3 centuries. As the skipper of the team things are going really well for him, the Indian team after making a comeback in the third Test have since dominated the hosts. Team India won the ODI series 5-1 and are leading the T20I series 1-1 with the final match to be played later today in Cape Town.
