England captain Eoin Morgan blamed poor umpiring for their loss against India in the 2nd T20I in Nagpur. The Men in Blue won a close match by a small margin of five runs after pacer Jasprit Bumrah conceded just two runs and picked up two vital wickets to press brakes on England’s wheel.

Joe Root who was batting on 38 was dismissed on the first ball of the 20th over after umpire Shamsuddin failed to hear the edge, as he was ruled out lbw. “That decision didn’t go our way and it swung momentum in the opposition’s favour,” Morgan told BBC Sport. “It has a huge effect, particularly on this wicket, where coming in and starting is extremely difficult.”

Earlier during the 1st T20I, the same umpire made a wrong decision by ruling in-form batsman Virat Kohli not out while replays clearly showed Chris Jordan deserved his stick. “It is definitely one that has got away,” said Morgan. “We commanded the game pretty much from the first ball. Our bowlers did a great job again and backed up their previous performance in the last game. On a wicket that favored India more than us, we stepped up to the plate.

England were left needing just 8 runs off the last over after Jos Buttler plundered Ashish Nehra for 16 runs in the 19th over. “In the chase, the run rate never got away from us and we managed to squeeze some partnerships together. Going into the final over, you should be winning those games nine times out of 10.”

Bumrah was awarded the man of the match for his match-winning spell of 2/20 while Ashish Nehra made use of his experience, finishing with figures of 3/28. Root and Ben Stokes scored 38 runs each. For India, it was KL Rahul, who top-scored with a 71 off 47 balls. Manish Pandey too looked in good touch, chipping in with a 26-ball 30 runs. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for England. Jordan picked up three wickets for 22 runs.
