The much anticipated 3rd and the final T20I match between India and Australia was called off without any action on the field following a wet outfield. The two skippers- Virat Kohli and David Warner couldn’t even come out to toss the coin as chances of a game looked very unlikely. Both the teams went into the final game in Hyderabad with a win in their kitty.

The city witnessed partial shower in the last 10 days and even though it didn’t drizzle yesterday (13th October), the poor out field conditions ruled out a possible clash. The prize distribution ceremony also didn’t take place. When quizzed by the reporters regarding the traditional post series ceremony, a close source told Indian Express “It was not held keeping the security of the players in mind. Sometimes, the fans can get unruly if a match is not held. That is why the team members left the venue.”

Refund on ticket

When asked if the spectators, who thronged in the stadium with hope to catch some play, would get a refund on the tickets, the source said “They will get around 70 per cent of the amount, considering that the tax on tickets is about 28 per cent.”

Fans didn’t get a show

The outfield was inspected twice- at 7 and then again at 7:45, while the game was finally called off at 8:15 pm. When asked about the reason behind the wet outfield, sources said “The field is made in such a way that the water does not accumulate at the centre, but trickles down to the outfield. We had covered the outfield too.” The fans had to content with watching the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya bat left-handed. BCCI later uploaded a picture of Kohli and Warner sharing the trophy after a 1-1 finish to the T20I series.
