Amidst all the chaos going on in the country, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been a breath of fresh air for the fans and the cricketers. It managed to bring back cricketing action in Pakistan and also managed to invoke a lot of spirits, who lost interest in the gentleman’s game. After the first season was completely restricted to UAE due to security reasons, the second managed to break all the barriers and the final was hosted by Lahore.

This time around, the number of matches to be played in Pakistan has gone up. The double round-robin League matches will be conducted in Sharjah, Dubai, and UAE, and all the playoff games will be hosted at home. Much to the delight of the fans, Karachi will be hosting a big match for the first time in almost a decade. ICC has been permitting only Lahore to host any big cricketing events, but the National Stadium, Karachi earned a huge boost as it’ll be hosting the coveted final of the tournament.

Franchise from the capital of the country, Islamabad United was the inaugural champion of the league. In the second season, Peshawar Zalmi displayed great courage and spirit to lift the title. This time around, all the franchises have made decent alterations to their squads and it’ll be hard to pinpoint one favourite.

Tournament Format

All the teams will be facing off against each other twice in home and away fixtures. The teams that finish in the top two positions after the league stage will play the Qualifier and the winner will go directly into the final. The teams finishing third and fourth will be playing the first Eliminator and the loser of this game will bid adieu to the tournament. The loser in the Qualifier and the winner of the first Eliminator will face off in the second Eliminator and the winning team will take the other spot in the final. The final will be played on 25th March in Karachi.
