The third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) is up and running in Dubai and so are the star players around the cricketing world. While the tournament got underway with the debutants Multan Sultans getting better of the defending champions Peshawar Zalmi, the runners-up of the last season Quetta Gladiators also suffered a defeat against Karachi Kings on the second day. However, it was the catch of the evergreen Shahid Afridi which grabbed the headlines more than the victory of his team.

While batting first, Kings posted a fighting total of 149 runs for the loss of nine wickets after opting to bat first. The likes of Colin Ingram and Ravi Bopara batted well for them before enduring a collapse from being 131/4 to 144/9 in the death overs. Though the total was good enough on the traditionally slow wicket of Dubai International Stadium. Quetta, in their chase, also started poorly as they lost their openers Shane Watson and Asad Shafiq with the score reading only 4.

Amazing catch

They kept on losing the wickets during the course of their innings but the fighting knock of Umar Amin had kept them in the hunt. However, the things changed dramatically in the 13th over as the legendary Shahid Afridi announced his arrival on the field with an amazing catch. The third ball of the over from Mohammad Irfan Jnr was lofted in the air towards long on by Umar. Afridi leapt into the air to take the catch near the boundary and just when he felt that he was going over the boundary, he got rid of the ball.

The veteran came back in the field of play and took the catch again after which the crowd went berserk only to see the trademark celebration from him. It was the key wicket as Umar Amin was middling the ball who had already scored 31 runs. Eventually, Karachi won the game by 19 runs as Gladiators could only reach 130 runs after 20 overs. Afridi also bowled well as he returned with the figures of 1/23 picking the key wicket of Sarfraz Ahmed.
