Lahore Qalandars were in with a great chance of winning their first match of this edition’s Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, the team, captained by the experienced Mohammad Hafeez, was defeated by defending champions Islamabad United by five wickets. The Qalandars got the better of their opponent, both during batting and bowling, but couldn’t be consistent enough to win the encounter.

The Kings, on the other hand, were involved in a closely-fought encounter against Multan Sultans in their first match. The Imad Wasim-led team held its nerve and managed to get over the line by seven runs. Both the Qalandars and Kings are scheduled to lock horns tomorrow in the second of tomorrow’s doubleheader in Dubai. In their last meeting, the Qalandars came out trumps in a one-over eliminator.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch has turned out to be good for batting, especially under the floodlights. Batsmen haven’t quite found it tough despite a high required rate. Batting second has to be a safer option.

The onus would be on Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar to give another brisk start. De Villiers would also want to score big after missing out in the last game. Hafeez, Devcich, and Taylor also need to come to the party. Hardus Viljoen may come in place of Carlos Brathwaite. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi would be desperate to make amends after being taken apart by the United batsmen.

Sikandar Raza and Ravi Bopara are the all-rounders. Sohail Khan, Mohammad Amir and Usman Khan Shinwari form the fast bowling troika. Umer Khan and Imad Wasim are the spinners. The latter can also hit the ball hard.
