Multan Sultans climbed on to the top of the table with their 4th win in five matches in the PSL 2020 as they thumped Quetta Gladiators on Saturday. The home team Multan were 48/3 in the 8th before Rilee Rossouw took the charge. He smashed an unbeaten 100 from only 44 balls with 10 fours and six sixes.
Rossouw shared a 139-run partnership with his captain Shan Masood (46) as the Sultans finished with 199/5. Shane Watson’s 41-ball 80 kept the Quetta Gladiators in the hunt as the equation came down to 62 from last 30 balls. But his dismissal saw the runs getting dried up as the Gladiators scored only 31 runs from the last five overs and lost the match by 30 runs.

A win after a while for Multan over Quetta:
2 – Only the 2nd time in five meetings in the PSL that the Multan Sultans have beaten Quetta Gladiators. Multan won the first-ever PSL game between the two sides in 2018 but lost three in a row since then.
A rare defeat for Quetta while chasing:
10-2 – Quetta Gladiators lost only two of the 12 matches while chasing since the start of the 2019 edition. Their other defeat while chasing in this period came against Karachi Kings by a 1-run margin in 2019.
2/2 – Multan Sultans won while defending a target on consecutive days. Prior to these two games, each of the previous 12 matches in the PSL involving Multan Sultans were won by the chasing team out of which Sultans won five and lost the remaining seven.
Nearly Multan’s biggest total:
199/5 – The total of 199/5 by Multan Sultans in this game is now their 2nd highest total in the PSL. Their highest came during the 2019 edition when they posted 200/5 against the Lahore Qalandars. Multan posted 186/6 on Friday which is now their 3rd highest team total in the PSL.
A record ton by Rossouw:
1 – The unbeaten century from Rilee Rossouw is now the first-ever three-figure score in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans. The previous highest PSL score for Multan Sultans was 85* by Sohaib Maqsood against Peshawar Zalmi in 2018.
43 – Rilee Rossouw’s 43-ball hundred is now the fastest in the history of the Pakistan Super League. The previous quickest was off 49 balls by Cameron Delport against Lahore Qalandars in the last edition.
43 – The century off 43 balls by Rossouw is also the joint-fastest known T20 century on Pakistan soil. Bilal Asif in 2015 while playing for Sialkot Stallions and Umar Akmal in 2016 for Lahore Whites recorded centuries in only 43 balls.
100* – Rossouw’s unbeaten 100 is now the first PSL century by a player batting outside top four positions. The previous highest PSL score while batting at No.5 or a lower position was only 75 by Sohail Akhtar of Lahore Qalandars against Islamabad United in 2019.
Watson moves on to top of the lists:
75 – With the seven sixes in this match, Shane Watson now holds the record for hitting the most number of sixes in the Pakistan Super League going past Kamran Akmal’s tally of 73 maximums. No other player till date has even hit 50 sixes in this league.
888 – The 70-run knock helped Watson become the leading run-scorer for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL by going past Ahmed Shehzad’s tally of 885 runs.
A record partnership comes to Multan’s rescue:
139 – The 139-run partnership between Shan Masood and Rilee Rossouw is now the highest stand in the PSL for the 4th or a lower wicket. Rossouw was involved in the previous highest PSL partnership for 4th wicket which was 130* with Sarfaraz Ahmed in 2017 while playing for Quetta Gladiators against Karachi Kings.
139 – The partnership of 139 by Masood-Rossouw pair is now the highest by Multan Sultans in the PSL for any wicket. The 135-run stand between Umar Siddiq and James Vince against Lahore Qalandars last year is the only other century partnership for Multan in the PSL. This is also the joint 3rd highest partnership in the history of the Pakistan Super League for any wicket.
An expensive spell of bowling from Irfan:
49 – The 49 runs conceded by Mohammad Irfan are now the joint-most number of runs conceded by a Multan Sultans’ player in a PSL match. Hardus Viljoen also conceded 49 runs during the 2018 edition match while representing Multan against Karachi Kings.
