Veteran umpire Aleem Dar could not hide his excitement and came up with a hilarious gesture while officiating during the game between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. The defending champions suffered their first loss of the competition as Islamabad beat them by five wickets in a high-scoring encounter.

Sharjeel Khan scored a century while captain Babar Azam also played a fine 62-run knock to guide Karachi Kings to a big total of 196 for 3. The Karachi openers added 176 runs in 18 overs for the first wicket before being dismissed on successive deliveries in the 19th over. Dan Christian (12 off 5) and Mohammad Nabi (7) then took the Kings’ score close to 200 runs.

However, the Karachi bowlers failed to do defend the big total as Islamabad United crossed the finishing line in 19.1 overs to register their second consecutive win in PSL 2021. Iftikhar Ahmed top-scored for Islamabad, scoring 49 while Alex Hales also played a crucial knock of 46 runs.

Aleem Dar fails to control his emotions

The incident happened on the very last ball of the game when Karachi Kings decided to go upstairs against Aleem Dar’s decision. The Pakistani umpire had adjudged Asif Ali not out for a lbw appeal. Asif had inside-edged a yorker from Waqas Maqsood to his boot before going for a single to finish the game. The Karachi players, however, felt the ball had hit Asif straight on his boot and went up in unison.

But Dar gave his decision in the batsman’s favour only to see Karachi Kings reviewing the decision. The replays soon showed that Dar was right as there was a huge spike on the UltraEdge. And as soon as the replays proved Dar right, he was seen doing a hilarious gesture as he mocked the Karachi Kings players with a fist pump celebration.

Here is a clip of the incident

Meanwhile, Dar will not be available for officiating in the ongoing PSL till March 14 due to his international commitment. The ICC Elite Panel umpire will supervise the Test matches between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in the UAE. The first Test will be held from March 2 in Abu Dhabi and the second from March 10 also at the same venue.
