Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings have had pretty similar campaigns in the 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Both teams qualified for the playoffs with five wins from their respective 10 games.

The Imad Wasim-led Kings had a bit of a stutter in the second leg of the league. They lost three games in a row before winning their last two matches and edging out the Lahore Qalandars on net run rate.

The Kings are next set to face the Zalmi in the Eliminator 1 on Monday, June 21 in Abu Dhabi. In the league stage, both teams won a game apiece against each other. The Zalmi have looked threatening while chasing down targets and they should again be looking to bat second.

Their bowling has been a bit of a concern, but with experience in their squad, it’s expected to come good. In their last meeting, the Zalmi got the better of the Kings by six wickets.

The Zalmi has had contributors from all corners. Shoaib Malik is currently their leading run-scorer with 244 runs at an average and strike rate of 30.50 and 140.22 respectively. Veteran batter Kamran Akmal also got his form back after his half-century against Islamabad United a couple of nights ago.

Haider Ali should come back into the eleven in place of Imam-ul-Haq. Sherfane Rutherford has also played his strokes with perfection. In the bowling department, Wahab Riaz has been exceptional with 14 wickets to show for his efforts. But the left-arm seamer also needs support from others.

Karachi Kings

Babar Azam is in red-hot form as he notched 500 runs in the ongoing season during the last match against the Quetta Gladiators. Sharjeel Khan has looked dangerous as well as he has 312 runs to show for his efforts. A lot will also be expected of Najibullah, Chadwick Walton, and Martin Guptill.

Danish Aziz sent a few out of the park last time and he’s in a good rhythm. For the Kings, Arshad Iqbal has done well with eight wickets. Mohammad Amir needs to come to the party after getting only four wickets from the first 10 games. The onus will also be on Imad to make the breakthroughs.
