Lahore Qalandars have won five out of their first seven matches in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 and are sitting pretty on the second spot in the points table.
However, in their previous game, Sohail Akhtar and Co lost to the Islamabad United by 28 runs after reducing the opponent to 24 for five in the first seven overs. Fakhar Zaman and Akhtar put on 55 for the first wicket after which they slumped to 100 for nine.
Their next match is against the Quetta Gladiators in the first of Tuesday’s doubleheader at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Another win will almost help them to qualify for the next round.
The Gladiators, on the other hand, are placed at the bottom of the points table with a solitary victory from seven games. Moreover, concussions to Andre Russell and Faf du Plessis won’t help their cause by any means. In their previous meeting, the Qalandars beat the Gladiators by nine wickets.
Playing combination for QUE vs LAH
Quetta Gladiators
Saim Ayub was roped in as du Plessis’ concussion substitute for the last game. In most probability, he’ll be staying in the eleven as the latter is set to miss out again. Usman Khan has looked pretty good with his stroke-making and he has to set the tone for the Gladiators at the start of the innings.
Jake Weatherald has been reasonable with his stroke-making. Sarfaraz Ahmed did well last time and a lot will depend on him as well. Zahid Mahmood was taken to the cleaners last time around and he’ll like to make amends. A lot will also depend on Mohammad Hasnain and Zahir Khan Pakteen.
Predicted XI
Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Jake Weatherald, Cameron Delport, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C & WK), Azam Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Khurram Shehzad, Zahid Mahmood, Mohammad Hasnain, Zahir Khan
Bench: Abdul Nasir, Anwar Ali, Arish Ali Khan, Hassan Khan, Usman Shinwari, Faf du Plessis, Andre Russell, Jack Wildermuth, Naseem Shah
Lahore Qalandars
Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez have done a chunk of the work for the Qalandars thus far in the tournament. Zaman is their leading run-scorer with 243 runs at an average and strike rate of 40.50 and 129.94 respectively. Hafeez is a tad out of touch with only 39 runs in the Abu Dhabi leg.
Sohail Akhtar and Tim David have also looked reasonable. In the bowling department, Shaheen Shah Afridi has 12 wickets to show for his efforts. James Faulkner has made an immediate impact with eight wickets from three games. Rashid Khan, with seven wickets, hasn’t flattered to deceive either.
Predicted XI
Fakhar Zaman, Sohail Akhtar, Muhammad Faizan, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Tim David, James Faulkner, Rashid Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Ahmed Daniyal
Bench: Muhammad Zaid Alam, Callum Ferguson, Sultan Ahmed, Agha Salman, Seekkuge Prasanna, Maaz Khan, Dilbar Hussain, Zeeshan Ashraf
