Islamabad United registered a thrilling victory against Multan Sultans in the third match of Pakistan Super League 2021. Islamabad captain Shadab Khan decided to field first after winning the toss. For the Multan team, their captain Mohammad Rizwan hit a wonderful half-century.
Rizwan scored 71 runs off 53 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, Carlos Brathwaite played a handy knock of 22 runs off 14 balls including 2 fours and 1 six. Multan Sultans posted a total of 150/8 in 20 overs. In the bowling attack, Mohammad Wasim Jr took 3 wickets giving away 29 runs in his 4 overs.
While chasing this total, Islamabad United looked in deep trouble when they lost their 6 wickets for only 74 runs. However, English all-rounder Lewis Gregory played a fine knock of 49 runs off 31 balls to ensure victory for his team. He hit 6 fours and 1 six in his unbeaten knock. Faheem Ashraf too had a vital contribution hitting 22 runs off 12 balls. Islamabad United chased down the total in 19 overs at the loss of 7 wickets. Carlos Brathwaite and Shahid Afridi took two wickets each for Multan Sultans.

Milestones for Mohammad Rizwan
1 – Mohammad Rizwan is in the form of his life as he has now hit four 50+ scores in his last 5 innings. Rizwan’s score of 71 in this game is the highest by a keeper-captain in PSL history. Previously this record was held by Kumar Sangakkara who had played a knock of 65 runs against Lahore Qalandars in 2017.
3 – The wicketkeeper-batsman registered the third-highest score by a captain in PSL. Shane Watson (79) has hit most runs in an innings while leading the side.
Another duck for Afridi
27 – Shahid Afridi got out without scoring on the very first ball he faced. This was his 27th duck in T20 cricket. He is now at a joint-second spot among players with most ducks along with Chris Gayle and Umar Akmal. Dwayne Smith (28) has the highest number of noughts to his name in T20 cricket.
Lewis Gregory’s record
49 – Lewis Gregory registered the highest individual score by a batsman from Islamabad United while playing at number 7.
34 – Lewis Gregory and Zafar Gohar added 34 runs for the 8th wicket in the successful chase. This is the highest ever partnership for the 8th wicket in PSL history by a pair from Islamabad United. Samit Patel and Faheem Ashraf had added 29 runs for the 8th wicket in 2019.
James Vince’s feat
513 – James Vince completed 500 runs in his PSL career during this match, and now has 513 runs to his name in the league. He is the fourth English cricketer to achieve this feat after Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, and Dawid Malan.
