The PSL 2022 is all set to begin tomorrow (January 27) and the preparations have started for the tournament opener in the Karachi National Stadium. But ahead of the opening game, the organisers had to deal with a short circuit in the power lines that created eruptions of fire in the makeshift commentary box on Tuesday night at the Karachi National Stadium. The fire seemed to have taken off during the welding operations and a fire brigade was called to the place to extinguish the outburst.

The tournament is scheduled to kickstart with the Multan Sultans taking on the Karachi Kings while the surge in Covid-19 cases has been a concern for the PCB director, Ramiz Raja. Four positive cases have been reported so far from the Karachi camp alone while the overall tally is at eight now including the staff. However, the matches will have to undergo as scheduled if each team has 13 players in their squad.

Video goes viral

Video of the fire eruption in the National Stadium went viral on Twitter. Also, according to sources from Cricket Pakistan, no casualties have been reported which is good news for the tournament to get underway without any hiccups. It is a huge risk from the Pakistan board to ensure that the PSL 2022 edition gets completed in the scheduled time.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will be hosting Australia for the first time since 1998 and this will be one of the historic moments as the home side hasn’t been able to convince many countries of the security levels in the nation. South Africa toured the nation last year for a complete bilateral series which did instill a lot of confidence for other nations and Australia are keen to make sure that the series is played on good terms. The three-match Test series is scheduled to start on March 3 and will be followed by 3 ODIs and one-off T20I as well.
