PSL spectators set to undergo medical screening amidst coronavirus

The 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is currently underway amidst the fears of coronavirus. The Sindh government has assured that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that their health experts gave a green signal for the matches at the National Stadium in Karachi. Amidst the deadly virus, the Sindh government confirmed that games would go ahead as per schedule.

The spectators, who will be coming to the stadium, will have to undergo some medical tests before entering the venue. Hand sanitizers have also been made available for people inside the stadium. In Karachi, a couple of coronavirus cases have emerged this week. To take the precautionary measures, all educational institutions in Sindh are to be closed until March 13.

Previously, Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh Chief Minister, addressed the people of the province and said that there’s nothing to worry. “The measures we are taking, such as the closing of educational institutions, tracking passengers and coordinating with their families, are purely for the safety of our people,” Shah was quoted as saying in Cricket Pakistan.

Karachi hosting quite a few games this season

Nine games in the ongoing edition of the PSL has been scheduled at the National Stadium. Four matches in the tournament have already taken place. The Karachi Kings have played two games thus far at home. Even as they beat the Peshawar Zalmi by 10 runs in the second match of the tournament, they went down to the Quetta Gladiators by five wickets at the same venue.

After a break, the venue will be back hosting the game on Thursday, March 12, the game to be played between the Kings and Lahore Qalandars. The Qualifier on Tuesday, March 17 will also take place in Karachi. The Kings, led by Imad Wasim, will be playing a couple of games at the venue going forward. Overall, the tournament has been a jaw-dropping one until now.

Multan Sultans are currently the table toppers with eight points from five matches. Islamabad United are placed second with even points from as many games. The likes of Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars have strained, languishing at the bottom half of the points table.
